Behaviour Policy for All Students Attending Music Lessons in a Private Residence

Introduction

This policy outlines the expected behaviour of all students, including both adults and children, attending music lessons in a private residence to ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

Arrival and Departure

  • Students must arrive on time and be ready for their lesson.

  • Late arrivals may result in a shorter lesson time.

  • Parents/guardians of children should wait outside or in a designated waiting area unless prior arrangements have been made.

  • Adult students are expected to manage their own punctuality and ensure they leave promptly after their lesson.

Respect for the Learning Environment

  • All students must respect the home environment, including furniture, instruments, and personal belongings.

  • Noise levels should be kept to a minimum before and after lessons.

  • Any guests accompanying students should remain in designated waiting areas and avoid disruption.

Behaviour Expectations

  • Students must listen to and follow the teacher’s instructions at all times.

  • Disruptive or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

  • Repeated misconduct may result in termination of lessons.

  • Any damage caused by inappropriate behaviour will be the responsibility of the student or their parent/guardian (if underage).

Health and Safety

  • Students must inform the teacher of any medical conditions or allergies.

  • If a student is unwell, they should not attend the lesson to prevent the spread of illness.

  • Emergency contact details must be provided and kept up to date.

Personal Belongings

  • Students should only bring necessary materials (e.g., instruments, sheet music, notebooks).

  • Mobile phones should be on silent or switched off during the lesson.

  • The teacher is not responsible for lost or damaged personal belongings.

Sibling and Family Member Attendance

  • Sibling lessons where students take turns are permitted if pre-arranged with the teacher.

  • While waiting, siblings must remain seated and engage in quiet activities such as reading or completing homework.

  • Family members accompanying students should remain respectful of the learning environment and avoid disruptions.

Safeguarding and Parental Involvement

  • Lessons will take place in an appropriate area of the home where visibility is maintained.

  • Parents/guardians are welcome to discuss their child’s progress with the teacher at an agreed time.

  • If there are any concerns regarding safeguarding, they should be raised immediately with the teacher.

Payment and Cancellation Policy

  • Payment for lessons must be made in accordance with the agreed terms.

  • If a student cannot attend a scheduled lesson, at least 24 hours’ notice should be given where possible.

  • Missed lessons without prior notice may not be rescheduled or refunded.

Amendments and Agreement

  • This policy may be updated as needed. Students and parents/guardians will be notified of any changes.

  • By enrolling in lessons, students (and parents/guardians of minors) agree to adhere to this behaviour policy.
